The House on Mango Street is the representative work of Sandra Cisneros, a Mexican - American writer. This novel unfolds around the growth of Esperanza, a Mexican - American girl, in the Mango Street, a Latino immigrant community in Chicago. It reveals issues such as poverty, violence, discrimination faced by women at the bottom of society, as well as the constraints and oppressions imposed on women by traditional gender concepts. Centering on Esperanza’s growth journey in The House on Mango Street, this paper analyzes the process of the awakening of female consciousness therein and ponders the value of the awakening of female consciousness from multiple dimensions.
